Activity 2.11
Energy Types on the
Electromagnetic Spectrum

[ back ]

Investigate one kind of EM energy

1.   Choose one wavelength from the EM Spectrum  (Your teacher may post a list on the black board for you to sign up for a specific wavelength.)

2.   Create a web page about your wavelength.  Find information using the resources listed below.

3.   Use these guidelines to write your report.

1.   Summarize:   What are electromagnetic waves?  List 7 EM waves.
2.   Wave vocabulary:  Write the definitions:  wave, crest, trough, wavelength, frequency, cycle.
3.   Show a drawing of a wave and label a crest, a trough.
4.   Briefly describe each of the 7 kinds of EM waves.  Write a brief paragraph about each.
5.   What is the wavelength of your topic wave, and how does it compare on the EM spectrum?
6.   Give examples of how we use your electromagnetic waves in everyday life.
7.   Is this wavelength used to study the Earth?  Explain.
8.   Include other interesting information - anything you want to.
4.   Link your EM web page to your online Portfolio page.  Which category does it fit?  (Science Projects OR  Lab Reports and Research)

Share what you learned with other students

4.   Prepare to share your report with the class.   Take notes on other students presentations.   Your web page and your presentation will be evaluated with this  rubric.
